Defence Force rose to second on the table and only trail leaders Terminix La Horquetta Rangers on goal difference after a clinical 4-2 victory over Police FC on Friday at the La Horquetta Recreation Ground.
The clash of the protective services lived up to the expectation with high intensity football, end-to-end action along with six goals.
Mickaeel Jem Gordon opened the scoring for Police FC when he was in the right place at the right time to tap in close range for the 17th minute lead. Ten minutes later, Brent Sam equalized from the penalty spot beating national goalkeeper Adrian Foncette who guessed correctly but the shot was too powerful.
Army took the lead as the second half began when Jameel Cooper eluded several defenders to slip it to Jameel Boatswain who made no mistake for the 2-1 lead. Then, Gordon who is in scintillating form tied the game 2-2 in the 65th with an assist from Kareem Freitas.
The game changed in 70th minute after referee Cecile Hinds awarded Defence Force a questionable penalty also giving Kaydion Gabriel his second yellow card for dissent. Sam stepped up and slapped it past a diving Foncette for the 3-2 lead. The momentum of the game switched in favour of the Teteron Boys. Substitute Dwight Quintero collected a loose ball and beautifully chipped a defeated Foncette to seal the 4-2 victory.
Goalkeeper John- Pierre David heroics allowed Cunupia FC to earn a 1-1 draw against table toppers Rangers.
Talented teenager Real Gill continued his excellent season by scoring another goal. This time a thunderous left-footed strike for 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. However, the visitors tied the game in the 57th through a Kwasi Allen`s goal. Thereafter, it was the goalkeeper David show who made nine stops where several were point-blank saves.
