Defence Force stay Alive

Defence Force recovered from their mid-tournament slump to have a slim chance of lifting the Ascension Football Tournament trophy after a thumping 5-0 victory over Central Soccer World on Saturday at the Arima Velodrome.

This win for Defence Force pushed them to second on the table with 34 points and three games remaining in the tournament. They are seven points behind leaders Terminix La Horquetta Rangers who they play on Friday.

Army increased the intensity in the second period of play after the first 45 mins ended goalless. Winger Kathon St Hillaire broke the deadlock in the 48th minute. Two minutes later, holding midfielder Justin Sadoo extended the lead to2-0.

Left- footed winger Jelani Felix made it 3-0 in the 54th minute whilst the tournament`s top scorer Brent Sam notched his 14th goal of the season and his team`s fourth in the 62nd minute.

The man who started the job, St Hillaire was at hand to complete the scoring with the fifth and final goal in the 65th minute.

Central FC scored three first half goals to record a comprehensive 3-1 win against the struggling Cunupia FC. The Central FC goal-scorers were Keasean St Rose (18th), Leonardo Dacosta (22nd), and Romario Burke (45+) whilst Hakeem Legall (54th) bagged the lone goal for Cunupia FC.
