Guerra`s Beaver sink Moruga; Army and Depotivo Draw

Atualla Guerra of Terminix La Horquetta Rangers produced one of the performances of the Ascension Football Tournament thus far when he banged in four goals to sink Moruga 7-1 on Friday at the La Horquetta Recreation Grounds.

Moruga scored the first goal of the night, a powerful strike from Tyrese Reefer in the 14th minute. The lead lasted for only five minutes as Guerra tapped in his first goal of the night. Unfortunately, Moruga`s goal-scorer Reefer had to be substituted with an injury.

Guerra was in a no-nonsense mood adding to his tally in the 22nd and 29th minute completing his hat-trick inside half hour for the 3-1 lead. His teammate Emmanuel Thomas extended the lead further with a goal in the 32nd minute making it 4-1.

The one-way traffic continued in the second period and Rangers made it a handful of goals scored, this time it was in-form striker Kadeem Corbin in the 54th. Then, the skipper on the night Ross Russell Jr was rewarded with a goal in the 80th for his commendable performance on the night. The former national midfielder Guerra ended his best scoring night with his fourth goal in the 84th minute to close the match 7-1.

Defence Force dropped crucial points and were made to come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with Deportivo Point Fortin in a highly contested match.

Army`s striker Brent Sam opened the scoring in the last minute of the first half, adding to his tally that currently stands at 8 goals. Deportivo equalized through Nathaniel Garcia in the 56th minute. Garcia`s thunderous strike from a long-range free kick is already being considered one of the goals of the tournament.

Deportivo fed off the energy of Garcia`s goal and took the 2-1 lead via Shakeil Henry`s exquisite finish with his first touch of the ball in the 64th minute. Army fought back to tie game scoring four minutes later from a beautiful solo effort from Jameel Cooper.
