Molino, Russell Jr named in 23-man Gold Cup Squad

Attacking midfielder Kevin Molino returns to the national team after several months and he will be joined by his Youth World Cup teammates Curtis ‘Boyo’ Gonzales and Marcus ‘Lobo’ Joseph for the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup on Friday.

The Soca warriors will come up against Montserrat in the preliminary round at the DRV PNK Stadium in Ft Lauderdale, Florida on July 2 from 9:30pm. Once victorious, they will play the second-round qualifier against either Cuba or French Guyana at the same venue on July 6 for a chance to play in Group A alongside Mexico, El Salvador and Curaçao.

Molino has fully recovered from his hamstring injury as he featured in the last three matches for his club Columbus Crew. He will be crucial in the offence especially with the unfortunate injury to Joevin Jones last week and the unavailability of AEK Athens winger, Levi Garcia. Midfielder, Khaleem Hyland retained the armband and Molino will be his deputy.

Interim head coach of the Trinidad and Tobago men’s senior team, Angus Eve selected his 23-man game squad on Wednesday. The squad also included left full-back Ross Russell Jr who last represented T&T two years ago. The three exclusions from the 26-man squad were teenager Molik Jesse Khan, Michael Pool – Angeron and injured Joevin Jones.
