Rangers clinched Ascension Title unbeaten

Terminix La Horquetta Rangers created history by completing the entire Ascension Football Tournament 2022 unbeaten after blowing away Cunupia FC 7-1 on Friday at the La Horquetta Recreation Ground. They ended with 48 points, winning tournament with two games left earning the winner`s trophy and the $100,000 pay cheque.

Rangers striker Kadeem Corbin who won Player of the Tournament 2022 opened the scoring in the third minute. Corbin collected the pass, turned on his defender and let loose a scorcher outside the box beating goalkeeper Stefan Berkeley.

Ataulla Guerra was brought down in the box and was awarded a penalty by referee Timothy Derry. He stepped up and calmly slotted it to the right of Berkeley for the 2-0 lead in the ninth minute. Three minutes later, Corbin got his second goal of the match after controlling superbly with the right foot to then shoot with the left into an empty net.

There was no letting off by Rangers as talisman Guerra bagged his second goal improving the score-line to 4-0 after 24 minutes. The former national midfielder volleyed home a left-footed shot from a Jamal Creighton defence-splitting pass. Before the dust could settle it was 5-0 for the home team, this time the goal-scorer was Daniel David.

Guerra got his hat-trick in the 56th minute with a simple header after Tyrone Charles got past two defenders with some nifty footwork to deliver a magnificent cross to an unmarked Guerra. Guerra`s goal meant that he was levelled on 15 goals with Brent Sam (Defence Force) who had one game remaining.

Cunupia FC got on the scoresheet in the 62nd minute through Josiah Daniel to update the score to 6-1. However, national U-20 midfielder Kaihim Thomas scored in 90+3 to complete a stellar Rangers campaign in fine style signing off with a 7-1 victory.
