Rangers one victory away from lifting title

Terminix La Horquetta Rangers are just one victory away from being crowned the Ascension Football Tournament champions after a thrilling 1-0 victory against Police FC on Friday at the La Horquetta Recreation Ground.

Rangers coach Dave Quamina inserted Tyrone Charles and Real Gill at the start of the second half and his planned worked as the two players linked up for the game winning goal and a decisive victory in the title chase.

Charles was on the right end to tap in a Real Gill cross in the 82nd minute for the game winner. Gill danced around three defenders before sending an inch-perfect cross for Charles who beat the offside trap to blast it passed goalkeeper Adrian Foncette. The home team Rangers survived some close goal-scoring chances from the Lawmen, but they couldn’t find the target.

Rangers will play against Defence Force on Friday and a victory against them will be enough to claim the title.

AC Port of Spain and Deportvio Point Fortin have enjoyed better fortunes in the second round of the tournament as they bolstered their squads. However, it was the team from the capital that was victorious with a hard-fought 2-1 win.

Muckette and Che Benny fresh from his bronze medal for Futsal at the Caribbean Games strengthened the AC POS midfield. Josiah Wilson doubled the lead moments before half-time make it 2-0 for the “Town Team”.

Deportivo had an improved second half showing, and they were rewarded for their efforts with a Shackiel Henry goal in 72nd minute.
